Red Carpet Review of Emmys 2025 with best and worst dressed

James Marsden @james_marsden

Once again, James gets it absolutely right. A well-fitted double-breasted dinner jacket with perfectly proportioned shawl lapels, a dinner shirt with black studs for contrast, a self-tie bow tie, and patent shoes. Simple et efficace. I would have suggested a slightly creamier fabric, as I always find optic white can look a little cheap but that’s just personal preference. 9/10

Jimmy Kimmel @jimmykimmellive

I can finally breathe. Jimmy is wearing a beautifully fitted dinner suit with silk satin peak lapels, a white shirt with black studs (though one too many), just the right amount of cuff showing, what appears to be a self-tie bow tie, and black patent Oxfords. The checklist is almost complete, just add a white pocket square (or a tissue in an emergency, it does the trick!). An amazing job proving, once again, that traditional black tie reigns supreme. 9.9/10

Evan Peters @evanpetes

The traditional dinner suit series continues! Another striking silhouette: white shirt with perfectly spaced black studs, black patent derbies (we’ll allow it), and sadly… a pre-tied bow tie. The lapels could be a touch wider, but they suit his frame and the bow tie’s proportions, so I’ll let it slide. Two things stand out: the pocket flaps and the dreaded triangle of doom. Gentlemen, always wear a cummerbund with your dinner suit — you don’t want any shirt showing between your button and trousers! 7/10

Ben Stiller @benstiller

This outfit, in particular, would make purists cringe — Ben looks fantastic in this dinner suit. The fit is spot-on, the lapel shape complements him perfectly… but what was he thinking with that straight tie? It completely ruins the look. Gentlemen, a straight tie has no place in black tie, always, always go with a bow tie!
