Our red carpet review from the Emmy Awards 2025 including critiques of black tie and evening wear interpretations that blur the lines between classy and crazy
IMieux vaut tard que jamais, as we say back home… and I’m sure you’ve all been waiting for it. THE EMMYS RED CARPET REVIEW HAS ARRIVED!
This year, like every year, the red carpet delivered a mix of impeccably dressed guests (or so I keep telling myself) and a fair share of black-tie disasters.
This year we are also tagging every celebrity, hoping we can help them in the future. So, grab your favourite flavour of popcorn, pour yourself a glass of cherry coke, and settle in for the reviews.

Philip Barantini

First and foremost, congratulations to Philip Barantini @barantini on his Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie! Styled by Gareth Scourfield (@stylegazer1), Philip wore a classic dinner suit paired with a white shirt featuring black studs, black patent shoes, a black cummerbund, and our very own Continental Bow Tie. Interestingly, the same style of bow tie was worn last year by Oscar winner Peter Straughan—clearly a lucky charm! Philip demonstrates that a traditional dinner suit is timeless, and that a distinctive bow tie can be the perfect way to add a touch of personality. 9.9/10
Jake Gyllenhaal

We’re starting off strong but Jake, oh Jake… this is how you completely ruin a perfectly acceptable dinner suit. An unbuttoned waistcoat and a cummerbund? Why, oh why? You might as well go all the way and ditch the bow tie altogether, oh, sorry, you already did that. Sadly, he’s a lost cause… 0/10

You all know what I’m thinking… a full white suit, shirt, and bow tie just doesn’t work for anyone. It’s a real shame, because the fit itself is decent, the trousers are a bit long, though perhaps that’s intentional. And a quick note on white: never go for optic white. Always choose an off-white or cream instead, it’s far more flattering and refined. 0/10
Walton Goggins @waltongogginsbonafide
No matter how cool you think you are, that doesn’t excuse skipping the bow tie—and a necklace is definitely not a suitable replacement. The low-cut trousers, missing cummerbund, and lack of socks only make things worse. 1/10
Pedro Pascal @pascalispunk
I won’t repeat myself but full white never works for black tie. An open-neck shirt doesn’t either, and don’t get me started on cuffs that are three inches too long and left unbuttoned. 0/10
